Well the bento plan is working. I have two days of successfully eaten snacks by Jude and today at lunch I tried again. It was a fairly unimpressive lunch, some leftover rice, carrot sticks and chicken nuggets. I pulled out the silicon cups and put in some dressing and BBQ sauce, and stabbed a cute pick into the carrots. All illustrated above. I don’t know if the new method of food prep worked all that well today, but it definitely looked cuter than if it was just rice, carrots and less than ideal chicken nuggets on the plate.
I am also feeling pretty successful with the running programme. I completed my longest “run” today; 2 miles (3.2km). It wasn’t a full run as I’m working through a run/walk class but it was the longest I’ve been out yet. Plus I’m already starting to notice that I’m able to run longer and further without walking in between. Dan laughed when I said this, but it felt almost like my legs didn’t want to stop. The walking interval was difficult to begin because it felt like I was just getting used to running when the walking portion would start. Anyways, I’m feeling good about it and I suppose that’s all that matters.

Alright, here is phase two (phase one: ordering online) of the exciting changes coming Jude’s way for snack time. The small items and tools were delivered today. Now I’m just waiting on the new snack/bento boxes to arrive. Hopefully they will arrive tomorrow as I ordered most of this at the same time.
My plan now is to start preparing his snacks with some of these items to make things more interesting for him, and me. I’ve seen some websites for inspiration, and although they often look very complicated and amazing, I’m admitting now that that is not my goal. I don’t want to make authentic Japanese Bento snacks for Jude. We live in France for goodness sake…we can hardly find a decent soya sauce! Instead I want to continue basically making the snacks I’m doing now, but reduce the amount of waste. I’m also hoping that by making things fun, I can sneak in new foods like unusual fruit, or *gasp* cheese! I’m also hoping that I can exert some creativity into this chore, so I can exercise my brain at least a little beyond figuring out ways to keep Carys still while changing her.
**UPDATE**
For some reason it took me two days to actually take a picture of the stuff I got in the mail. I am STILL waiting for the boxes to arrive, but no worries yet. I’ve already started putting the accessories to good use…and it’s working too! I’m one happy Momma! All I have to do is cut the fruit into smaller bite sized pieces vs the usual finger holding size and the kids gobble the stuff right up. It’s amazing what a little plastic pick will do!
