Cinque Terra – Day 4

Our last day was busy but we managed to quickly visit Vernazza again to have breakfast at the restaurant which was closed the previous day. There we feasted in Italian treats of cannoli, fresh fruit and delicious coffee. It was the perfect ending to a lovely weekend getaway. Thanks to Dan for driving the distance and for my Mom for sharing the time together even though her visit to Europe was short.IMG_0514 IMG_0516 IMG_0523

Cinque Terra – Day 3

On our third day in Cinque Terra we decided to visit some of the villages via the train. We didn’t make it to all five villages but we did see three of them; Vernazza, Corniglia and Riomaggiore.

In Vernazza we tried to beat the rush to an internet recommeneded breakfast hole, but it was unfortunately closed for the day. We did a little exploring, then quickly settled on a small place for coffee and a small snack before moving on to the next village.Day3CT-2IMG_0234IMG_0247

Corniglia was the smallest village we visited, but it had lots of amazing surprises hidden within. We climbed our way up more than 300 steps to the village, then wound our way through the narrow walkway to the sea edge and took in the amazing vista across the sea. On our return we settled into a small piazza restaurant to people watch while we ate our Italian specialties. Just before leaving we stopped into a tiny, yet popular gelateria for some much needed sweets and a few photos of the village.Day3CT-3 IMG_0297 IMG_0311 Day3CT-5 Day3CT-8 IMG_0464 IMG_0370IMG_0368-Pano

Finally we found ourselves in Riomaggiore. After a lot of walking, this village wasn’t as explored by us as the others. We did a walk around the cove, and found a small park at the top of hill for the kids to play while we adults took in the amazing view of the village. Our stay didn’t last long, and we returned to our apartment to relax for the remainder of the day.IMG_0445 Day3CT-6 Day3CT-9 Day3CT-10

For dinner we brought in some pizzas from an award winning pizzaria in the village. It was very good and definitely a step up from our less than amazing tourist pizza we had the first night. IMG_0501

Cinque Terra – Day 2

On our first full day in Cinque Terra, we weren’t really sure how to tackle the five villages especially since we were staying just north of them in Levanto. After a quick train ride to Montoross, we opted to take a ferry all the way to Porto Venere (normally the boat stops in each village […]

This month has been crazy busy and fun. It began with celebrating Jude’s birthday, a visit from my Mom, and a weekend get-away to Italy. I’ll break down the trip into each day, but for the remaining portions of the month, I’ll squeeze them into this post. Jude celebrated his birthday with a handful of […]

Happy Easter 2016

This Easter we followed tradition and went to Ft. l’Ecluse for their egg hunt. It’s always filled with lots of stair climbing and very little chocolate, perhaps the perfect combination. This year we managed to climb the ~15 stories of stairs to reach the highest point. Reaching the top did not earn us any extra chocolate but […]

This afternoon, Dan took the younger two kids to the annual Geneva Auto Salon and checked out the latest and greatest in the automobile industry. Jude and I opted to do something a bit more close to home. After a morning of building an amazing village out of paper, including a lovely giant tree, multiple […]

Sometimes it’s just pink outside

Thumbnail image for Sometimes it’s just pink outside

Occasionally as the seasons begin shifting the sky does some strange and interesting tricks. Tonight was one of those nights. The sky was more colourful than I’ve ever seen it. Everything was pink, the air itself looks pink yet parts of the sky had the most amazing blue that I failed at capturing with the […]

Sunday in the city

We spent this afternoon walking around downtown Geneva. It’s the day before the kids return to school after two busy weeks off, and everyone is excited to return to the usual routine. The older two had to create a photo of them reading somewhere unusual for their English class, so we tried our best. I’ll […]
