Cinque Terra – Day 2

On our first full day in Cinque Terra, we weren’t really sure how to tackle the five villages especially since we were staying just north of them in Levanto. After a quick train ride to Montoross, we opted to take a ferry all the way to Porto Venere (normally the boat stops in each village along the way, but the weather wasn’t quite calm enough so it just sailed past each village). This would allow us to see from the water all the villages  which turned out to be really amazing.

Porto Venere is not one of the Cinque Terra villages, though it is equally beautiful. We spent the day walking around, eating a seafood filled lunch and relaxing with some gelato. The sun was perfect and although the ferry was unable to dock at each village due to wind, it wasn’t a cold wind.

It was a perfect first day in the five lands even though we only quickly visited Montorosso while waiting for a boat.

That’s a very beautiful and colourful looking place. It’s hard to tell if there are any garden areas to grow food (I know there must be) or even how did they start to live there on the side of the mountains. It’s so different and interesting. The water looks pretty wavy, I’d get seasick.
